KOREAN SKIN CARE ROUTINE FOR OILY SKIN

Oily skin is one of the most common skin concerns, but don’t worry we are always here to help! We break down the skincare routine with a curated selection of products to help you keep the oily skin under control.

How to tell if you have oily skin?

If you notice that your skin is prone to breakouts and acne or you feel your skin is shiny, greasy and moist when you touch it, it tells you that you have signs of oily problems. Moreover, enlarged pores are also concerned as a clear signal of oily skin. Don’t worry, read more below and find the effective solutions for your skin.

Do you know the other causes of oily skin?

One of the reasons is simply genetics. We are born with either dry skin or oily skin or even both combined together. Apart from that, there are other reasons for oily areas in your skin below.

When you wash and scrub your skin too harsh with cleansers or exfoliators, you may simultaneously strip your skin out of moisture and cause your glands to overproduce excessive oil. Then, your skin may appear shiny with enlarged pores, probably cause breakouts and blackheads. Make sure you do not over-wash or over-exfoliate your face.

Another root of oily skin can be your eating diet. One of London’s première aesthetic doctors, Dr David Jack said that “eating a diet high in antioxidants and low in animal products has been shown to reduce inflammation and sebum production” (sebum which is responsible for keeping the skin hydrated and healthy mainly decides the “oiliness level”). So, the advice is to keep a balanced diet with a lower intake of sugars and more plant-based products.

Are there any advantages of oily skin type?

Do you know that you're actually lucky to have oily skin? You may be struggling with some skin problems due to oily conditions now, but it will be more valuable when you get older. Having more oils in your skin could help you to slow down the sign of ageing problems such as fine lines or wrinkles.

Here are some tips dermatologists recommend to help control oily skin

Do cleanse your face every morning and evening, but don't scrub your skin as scrubbing can irritate your skin. Also use a mild, gentle cleanser, many people believe that using a harsh cleanser for oily skin can help dry out the skin. However, using a cleanser that is too harsh can irritate your skin and trigger increased oil production.

Choose the products are oil free so they won’t clog your pores or cause acne. Although you have oily skin, it's still important to apply moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated, so don't forget to apply moisturiser daily and do wear sunscreen with SPF30 or higher to protect the skin.

How to build your own morning and night routine?

Don’t rush your morning skincare routine, start slowly and simply to have the best skin condition for all day long, especially when you apply makeup afterwards.

First things first, the routine starts with gentle cleansing like Cosrx low pH good morning gel cleanser, to remove oily residual and non-absorbed skincare from the night sleep, therefore improves clogged pores. After cleansing, tapping some soft and dewy toner over the face will balance the skin condition and also control the sebum level. If you are looking for a toner that helps restore moisture and keep the perfect pH level balance of your skin after cleansing, Dear Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner is one. In the next step, your oily skin craves for some special treatments, it’s time for the serum to melt in your skin with some antioxidant Vitamin C, which brightens your skin and protects it against oxidative damage throughout the day. We suggest the best Korean Serums which are light-weight, non-sticky and fast absorption, such as d'Alba White Truffle Ampoule or JUMISO All Day Vitamin Brightening & Balancing Facial Serum.

For oily skin, after cleansing, toner and serum with a sunscreen are enough for day time to keep the skin protected and shine-free. Always remember to wear sunscreen to protect your skin from damaging UV rays, for a young and healthy look. With an oily skin condition, you may be afraid of sunscreen due to greasy and heavy feeling. But, we’re here to prove you that lightweight, non-shiny and non-sticky sun creams really do exist for your oily and acne-prone skin, namely one of them from Korean beauty world Shangpree Phyto Essence UV Sunscreen. We also bring you other great products on the list. If you don’t know what is the right sun cream for you, don’t worry, check out our blog here.

NIGHT SKINCARE ROUTINE

Step 1+2 : Double- Cleansing

Meanwhile, night time is when your skin should be restored and relaxed, removing dirt and oil on the skin’s surface during the day. Different from what we do in the morning, the night routine starts with the double-cleansing technique, an oil-based cleanser first to remove your makeup like this all-in-one sherbet type cleanser Banila Co Clean It Zero Revitalising and a mild cleanser later to totally refresh your skin, d’Alba Peptide No-Sebum Mild Gel Cleanser is great for cleaning pores while also providing anti-wrinkle and brightening properties.

Step 3: Toner

You may want to add a mild acidic toner to your routine such as the d'Alba Peptide No-Sebum Toner or Cosrx AHA BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner. Both contains mild BHA to help clear sebum, remaining impurities and refine the skin texture to keep the skin clear, balanced preventing breakouts.

Step 4: Ampoule/Serum

This step is to slather on a concentrated serum or ampoule to treat your skin concern such as dehydration, acne or hyper-pigmentation. SOME BY MI AHA.BHA.PHA 30 Days Miracle Serum works wonders for oily skin. This powerful serum infused with 10,000ppm tea tree leaf water and 14.5% centella extract helps soothe and moisturize while minimizing pores.

If you're looking for a light-weight serum with anti-wrinkle effect, D'ALBA PIEDMONT White Truffle Intensive Ampoule won't disappoint you. This silky, multi-tasking ampoule features luxurious ingredients like Italian white truffle oil and caviar that soothe sensitive skin by controlling oil and water balance, target signs of aging and give nourishment deep into the skin without stickiness and absorbs fast for super moisture retention.

Step 5: Moisturiser

Although you have oily skin, it doesn't mean you don't need to moisturise. All skin types need a good moisturiser to lock in moisture and all the goodness from the previous steps while keeping the skin moisturised and strengthening skin barrier.

But since you have oily skin, you can opt for a light-weight moisturiser or gel-type moisturiser. Dear, Klairs - Midnight Blue Calming Cream is a dream for oily skin. This pretty blue calming cream contains the star ingredient, Guaiazulene which carries powerful skin calming abilities, and Centella Asiatica, which helps hydrate and relieve redness. While the D'ALBA PIEDMONT Peptide No-Sebum Repair Cream is a light-weight anti-aging repair cream if your skin needs a high concentrated formula to boost elasticity without clogging your pores.

Don’t you think that it’s enough to get rid of oily skin condition and reach a glow? Yes and No, it’s never enough. That’s why we have some extra for you: exfoliation and facial mask. Using gentle exfoliation like The Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish twice a week is a good way to prevent acne, reduce the texture of clogged pores,  even out complexion and help other skincare products penetrate deeper. If you want to add an exfoliator to the routine, insert it in between cleanser and toner. Moreover, it’s an excellent idea to make “facial masks every week” become a habit, your skin’s health will be boosted up.
